The house is located on a steeply sloping site facing a reservoir created in 1974. Once terraced and cleared as farmland, the site is now densely forested.

The clients hold a fascination with the architectural model of the Ryokan—a traditional Japanese traveler's hotel often consisting of separate pavilions and shared baths.

The project is a primary residence and family retreat, consisting of a series of externally linked rooms—clustered for community but separated for privacy. The house is currently entering the schematic design phase and construction will be phased over several years.
